Vertical Cinema at GEGENkino in Leipzig

Vertical Cinema will be presented in Germany for the first time as part of GEGENkino festival in Leipzig on 28 April 2016.

Vertical Cinema at Baltā Nakts

Vertical Cinema is part of the official Baltā Nakts festival programme in Riga. During this all-night arts festival on 5 September, also known as Nuit Blanche,  Vertical Cinema will light up the grandiose Riga Concert Hall.

Vertical Cinema at Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF)

Vertical Cinema en route to Melbourne for its Australian premiere with a double screening at Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF). A special event within the MIFF film programme, Vertical Cinema will be presented on 14 August at the Deakin Edge Theatre.

On 11 August, Vertical Cinema is the subject of the panel discussion Talking Pictures – Cinema, Reimagined hosted by MIFF and the University of Melbourne.

Vertical Cinema at STRP Biennial 2015

Next stop for Vertical Cinema is the STRP Biennial in Eindhoven on Thursday 26 March 2015. The STRP Biennial 2015 is all about the screen. Between 20 and 29 March, the industrial halls of the Klokgebouw in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, will be filled with hybrid forms of art, technology and music. Vertical Cinema is part of the STRP exhibition SCREEN ON | NO SCREEN.

Vertical Cinema’s North American premiere at SXSW Festival

Vertical Cinema will have its US premiere at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas (USA) on Tuesday 17th of March 2015.

Vertical Cinema opens Glasgow Short Film Festival

Glasgow Short Film Festival 2015 opens on Wednesday 11 March in spectacular style with the monumental and mesmerising audio-visual experience Vertical Cinema.

Vertical Cinema at Leeds International Film Festival

Vertical Cinema will have its UK premiere at the Leeds International Film Festival, which takes place from 5 to 20 November 2014. Vertical Cinema launches the first Leeds Free Cinema Week with two sold-out screenings on Friday 7 November in the spectacular setting of Left Bank Leeds arts and events venue.

VERTICAL CINEMA AT STEDELIJK – EXPANDED LECTURES

An additional programme of lectures by international speakers focuses on the history of vertical and other forms of expanded cinema and explores the future of audio-visual experiments. All lectures will be held in English, with the exception of the lecture by Bart Rutten on Sunday 23 February, which will be in Dutch.

VERTICAL CINEMA AT STEDELIJK AMSTERDAM

After two spectacular, sold-out screenings at the 2014 International Film Festival Rotterdam, where it was hailed as one of the highlights of the entire festival, Vertical Cinema comes to Amsterdam. The programme, comprising ten new 35mm films for a vertical Cinemascope screen, will be presented at the Stedelijk Museum over four consecutive nights.

VERTICAL CINEMA AT STEDELIJK – SYNCHRONATOR WORKSHOP

The Synchronator device converts electronic audio signals into composite video signals. Designed by Bas van Koolwijk and Gert-Jan Prins in 2009, it has seen a steady growth in the number of users since then. During this workshop, we will introduce you to the background, techniques and use of this device for live improvisation and recordings.

COH & FRANK will present a new collaboration on 24 January in which video images are generated from sound output of the mixing board, in an entirely analogue transfer from sound to image.

VERTICAL CINEMA AT IFFR – LECTURE BY ERKKI HUHTAMO

On Thursday 23 January, the day before the screening of Vertical Cinema, UCLA- professor Erkki Huhtamo will prelude the programme with the lecture “Up and Down the Shaft of Time: An Archeology of Verticality”. He will elaborate on verticality as a cultural phenomenon.

SONIC ACTS PRESENTS: VERTICAL CINEMA SCREENING AT IFFR

On 24 January, the international premiere of Vertical Cinema will take place as part of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) at Arminius Rotterdam.

Ten commissioned large-scale works by internationally renowned experimental filmmakers and audiovisual artists will be screened on a massive vertical screen at Arminius Rotterdam. This is a one-off screening at IFFR and capacity is limited, so make sure you get your tickets as soon as possible.
